Scott Melton

Board President

Scott Melton serves as the President of the Kentwood Public Schools Education Foundation, bringing a remarkable 30-year legacy of service to the board.

A founding partner and Of Counsel at Gruel Mills Nims & Pylman, PLLC, Scott’s legal career has been marked by his dedication to representing a diverse range of individuals and businesses. His leadership within the legal community is further highlighted by his past roles as Board Member, Treasurer, and President of the Grand Rapids Bar Association.

Scott’s deep-rooted connection to Kentwood began when he and his wife chose the district for its vibrant diversity, seeking an environment that would provide their children with a broad and inclusive perspective.

Today, that connection spans generations: Scott is the proud parent of multiple KPS graduates — including former exchange students — the father of a current KPS educator, and a grandfather to students presently enrolled in the district.

With an educational background that includes a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School, Scott remains a passionate advocate for the transformative power of public education. He believes that quality schooling is the cornerstone of both individual success and national growth.

Beyond his work with the Foundation, Scott has served on numerous boards, including the Grand Valley State Legal Studies Advisory Board and various non-profit agencies.

An outdoor enthusiast and craftsman, he spends his personal time working in his shop or yard, traveling, and staying active through biking, skiing, and playing ice hockey.
